Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill to insurance plans. Customers can pay for testing and then submit their invoice to their insurance company for reimbursement. You can also use your Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), or similar account for reimbursement for testing. We gladly accept cash or Venmo.

You can have COVID-19 testing fully paid by your health plan or the government, with no out-of-pocket cost, when billed to the health plan or the government. If you are looking for that No-Cost option, please contact your healthcare provider. With MMW, you are paying for the concierge services, the convenience, and the privacy of testing.

What type of testing do you use?

We will be using a couple of different platforms for COVID testing. MMW has a contract with Abbott for a molecular point-of-care platform called ID Now. It is an isothermal nucleic acid amplification technology (NAAT) to provide rapid, instrument-based, qualitative detection of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, influenzas A & B, strep A and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It is equivalent to a PCR test and superior to an antigen test. However, currently supplies for this test are limited due to the high numbers of COVID nationwide. A backup test used will be the BD Veritor Antigen test. Its sensitivity is still high, between 67-93% sensitive in picking up SARS-CoV-2.

What is the difference between ID Now's technology and a PCR or antigen test?

Antigen tests simply look for antigens, which are protein markers found on the outside of a SARS-CoV-2 virus. While fairly specific, it does have slightly lower sensitivity, meaning it can give false negative results. A PCR is a molecular test called Polymerase Chain Reaction, which detects genetic material of the virus. It is considered more accurate but often requires a 2-3 day turn around time to result. Our new technology with ID Now is also a molecular test, but uses isothermal technology to “crack open” the envelope of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, exposing its viral RNA. This decreases the time to get results with equivalent accuracy of a PCR.

I need a COVID test for travel. Will your test(s) meet my needs?

YES. Both the BD Veritor Antigen test and the ID Now NAAT are accepted for domestic and international travel. The CDC states that either an antigen test or an NAAT test are acceptable. The NC Department of Health and Human Services recently revised their verbiage to remove the required “PCR” and to include the newer technology of isothermal NAAT. As always, check with your airlines and destination/country of arrival to make sure!

Can we test outside of my home?

Yes. We can test on your front porch, garage, or a location of mutual agreement. Please let me know if you desire an alternate testing location.

What area do you service?

I live in Wayne County/Goldsboro, NC and can travel to surrounding counties. Any travel over 25 miles may incur an added fee.

How long does it take for results?

Positive results will take 10 minutes or less on the ID Now analyzer. Positive results will result in 5 minutes. The BD Veritor analyzer will give results in 15 minutes.

How do I receive my results?

You will receive a hard copy of your results at the time of testing. We will also provide a complimentary electronic version to your email address provided at booking. We do NOT fax or email results to your employer, school, or other entities. Positive results are reported to NC DHHS for tracking/surveillance.

Can you give me work/school clearance if my results are negative or positive?

How do you do the test?

Currently, we perform both the Antigen & NAAT COVID tests via a nasal swab inserted only about an inch inside both nostrils. There is the option for the nasopharyngeal approach. Rest assured I take great care to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Please ask if you have any questions, and make sure to let me know if you have any anatomical issues such as a deviated septum.

What do I do if I test positive?

Legally, we cannot give you any medical advice, examination, or prescriptions. We do recommend adherence to CDC Guidelines for COVID-19 infection and can provide resources in this regard if requested.
